Choosing the Right Dock Frame
The frame sets how stiff the dock feels, what decking it can take and how long it lasts. This category has two very different options: Blue Ridge's own galvanized steel floating dock frames and DAKA's sectional and roll-in dock sections.
Blue Ridge galvanized dock frames
These are box truss frames we fabricate in Marion from USA steel.
- Material. 2 x 2 x 3/16 in. and 1 x 1 x 3/16 in. angle iron.
- Finish. Every frame is fully welded first, then hot-dip galvanized, so the welds are sealed too.
- Support spacing. Cross-supports are never more than 3 ft apart. Decking supports come standard on 24 in. centers and can be changed during fabrication.
- Decking. The frames take treated wood, composite, aluminum decking or our concrete dock pavers.
- Handrails. Optional handrails stand 39.5 in. above the frame, and ADA-compliant options are available.
- Warranty. 5-year structural warranty.

DAKA dock frames and sections
DAKA frames and sections are for roll-in and sectional docks that stand on legs or posts. DAKA builds truss frames in aluminum or galvanized steel, plus Low Pro aluminum sections, and sells platform brackets, sway braces and wheel end kits to finish them.
What to decide before ordering
- Floating or standing: deep water, soft bottoms and changing levels favor a floating frame on dock floats.
- Overall layout and section sizes.
- Decking type, since it sets support spacing.
- Whether you need handrails or ADA access.
Common mistakes
- Planning decking after the frame is built.
- Skipping the flotation math on a floating frame.
- Assuming website shipping covers a full-size frame.
Dock Frames FAQ
What are Blue Ridge galvanized dock frames made of?
Blue Ridge Boat Docks builds its box truss frames in Marion, IL from USA steel, using heavy 3/16 in. angle iron in two sizes. Each frame is fully welded, then hot-dip galvanized, with cross-supports no more than 3 ft apart. The frames carry a 5-year structural warranty.
What decking can I put on a galvanized dock frame?
Blue Ridge galvanized frames are built to accept treated wood, composite, aluminum decking and Blue Ridge concrete dock pavers, among others. Support spacing is set during fabrication (24 in. centers is standard), so choose your decking before the frame is built.
Should I choose a floating frame or a DAKA roll-in dock?
DAKA notes that roll-in docks suit gradual slopes with hard, sandy or rocky bottoms. Deep water, muddy bottoms and changing water levels are better served by a floating frame on dock floats. Blue Ridge Boat Docks can look at your shoreline and recommend one.
Do the galvanized frames come with handrails?
Handrails are an option. They are built from the same 2 x 2 x 3/16 in. angle iron, stand 39.5 in. from the top of the frame to the top of the rail, and taper in 6 in. at each end. ADA-compliant handrail options are available by calling 618-294-6905.
How are dock frames delivered?
Frames can be picked up free at the Marion shop or delivered by Blue Ridge for $100 within 50 driving miles and $200 within 100. Delivery with installation is also offered. For longer distances, call 618-294-6905 before ordering so freight can be quoted accurately.
