Choosing a DAKA Dock

DAKA is a Minnesota family business that has built docks and lifts since 1977. Its docks stand on legs or posts rather than floating, so the shoreline and bottom decide which style works.

Roll-in or sectional?

  • Roll-in docks ride on wheels and legs and roll in and out as one piece. DAKA recommends them for gradual slopes with hard, sandy or rocky bottoms.
  • Sectional docks sit on posts in sleeves. DAKA suggests them for steeper banks and drop-offs where the water moves less than about 2 ft. Sections come apart for storage.

The DAKA lines

  • Low Pro 7 uses a 7 in. extruded aluminum frame with no visible holes, nuts or bolts and a 16 ft max span. Sections come in 4 x 8, 4 x 10, 4 x 12 and 4 x 16 ft. See Low Pro 7 complete docks.
  • Wide Five is the 5 ft wide, 5 x 12 ft version of that frame. See Wide Five complete docks.
  • Low Pro 5 is a lighter 5 in. sectional frame in 4 x 10 and 4 x 12 ft sections that stack for winter.
  • Truss-style docks use 12 in. deep truss frames in aluminum or galvanized steel. DAKA lists max spans of 24 ft for aluminum and 32 ft for steel.

Decking

Low Pro docks take Western Red Cedar, ThruFlow or Alumigrain aluminum panels. Truss docks take cedar or Titan polypropylene. Low Pro 5 uses Sure Step polypropylene panels.

Measure first

  • Water depth at the far end of the dock and how much the level changes.
  • Slope of the shoreline and what the bottom is made of.
  • Overall length and the platform size you want at the end.

Common mistakes

  • Choosing a roll-in dock for a soft, mucky bottom.
  • Ordering parts for the wrong line. Low Pro and truss parts are not the same.
  • Skipping legs long enough for the deep end.

Replacement parts are in truss-style dock parts and Low Pro 7 accessories. Want help laying out a DAKA dock? Call 618-294-6905.

DAKA Docks FAQ

Which DAKA dock is right for my shoreline?

DAKA recommends roll-in docks for gradual slopes with hard, sandy or rocky bottoms, and sectional post docks for steeper banks where water levels change less than about 2 ft. Soft, muddy bottoms and big level swings usually call for a floating dock instead. Blue Ridge Boat Docks can help you decide.

What is the difference between Low Pro 7 and truss-style DAKA docks?

Low Pro 7 uses a 7 in. extruded aluminum frame with hidden fasteners and sits close to the water. Truss-style docks use visible 12 in. deep truss frames in aluminum or galvanized steel and can span farther between supports, up to 24 ft in aluminum and 32 ft in steel per DAKA.

What decking options do DAKA docks have?

Low Pro 7 and Wide Five docks are offered with Western Red Cedar, ThruFlow polypropylene, and Alumigrain aluminum in woodgrain or gray birch. Truss-style docks use cedar or Titan molded polypropylene. Low Pro 5 sections come with Sure Step panels. Each listing names the decking.
